Johnson's Cutoff Mapping Team - 2011

The Johnson's Cutoff Mapping Team began the year with a continuation of the search for the site of the original Bartlett's Bridge on the South Fork of the American River.

Later in the season they mapped the site of the Brockliss Bridge and the constructed Brockliss Road from the American River to Peavine Ridge.

Due to the late storms the river was raging below the Brockliss Bridge site.

Oxshoe
Many small, old, oxshoes were found on the Brockliss Road.

Completing the map up Wright's Hill was a goal for 2011 but the whitethorn was so thick and the trek to where they left off in 2010 so arduous that after one attempt this past year they didn't return.

During the summer the Johnson's Cutoff Team worked the area east of Georgetown Junction. Could the Cutoff be underneath the Lincoln Highway shown in this picture? Note Glen Owens standing at the base of the tree that was surely there when the emigrants passed by.
