Luther Pass Hike

CA-NV Chapter

Luther Pass was named for Ira M. Luther, pioneer Sacramento settler, who was the first man to cross with a wagon and team over this route in the summer of 1854.

Later that year the route was surveyed by El Dorado County Surveyor Henderson.  The pass was used extensively as a connecting trail and then wagon road between Hope Valley and the Carson –Mormon route and Lake Valley and the Johnson’s Cutoff.
